Double Entry #5

Quote:    "Educators face enormous challenges in preparing their students to be critical online readers."

Response:  I highly agree with this quote; teachers now face a great challenge in everyday schooling. The internet has changethe way student do reports or look for new information. Along with the new way of researching how can teachers teach student ways of finding correct information and ensure that is not false, when teachers them self have trouble. The new era of learning has take us storm and teachers don't know how to prepare or teach other how to use it. Yes teacher can teach critical thinking skills but how do they teach studens how to use them online and not in a book. We all kow that there is tons of false information online how can we tell what is what?

Wikipedia Reliability Worksheet

Wikipedia Reliability Worksheet
Article title: Physical education
Answer the following questions to see how reliable a Wikipedia article is.
  1. Start with the main page. Does it have any cleanup banners that have been placed there to indicate problems with the article? (A complete list is available at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Template_messages/
    Cleanup
    .)

Any one of the following cleanup banners means the article is an unreliable source:
This article or section has multiple issues. no
This article may require cleanup to meet Wikipedia's quality standards. no
The neutrality of this article is disputed.

no
The factual accuracy of this article is disputed. no
This needs copy editing for grammar, style, cohesion, tone or spelling.

no
This may contain material not appropriate for an encyclopedia. no
This article only describes one highly specialized aspect of its associated subject. no
This article requires authentication or verification by an expert. no
This article or section needs to be updated.

no
This article may not provide balanced geographical coverage on a region.

 no
This is missing citations or needs footnotes. no
This article does not cite any references or sources. no

  1. Read through the article and see if it meets the following requirements:
Is it written in a clear and organized way? yes
Is the tone neutral (not taking sides)? yes
Are all important facts referenced (you're told where they come from)? yes
Does the information provided seem complete or does it look like there are gaps (or just one side of the story)? yes

  1. Scroll down to the article's References and open them in new windows or tabs. Do they seem like reliable sources? (For help in determining the general reliability of a source, check out the Knowing What's What and What's Note: The 5 Ws (and 1 "H") of Cyberspace handout.)

Reliable references:Sunday Inquirer Magazine: Life Lessons from Karate".

    Possibly unreliable references:Create Development". http://www.createdevelopment.co.uk.

Definitely unreliable references: Is Arnis De Mano dead in the Philippines?

  2. Click on the Discussion tab. How is the article rated on the Rating Scale (Stub, Start, C, B, GA, A, FA)? What issues around the article are being discussed? Do any of them make you doubt the article's reliability?

The talk said it was USA bias but that was back in 2010 and has not been talked about since then.

This article has not  received any rating.

  1. Based on the above questions, give the article an overall ranking of Reliable, Partially Reliable or Unreliable.
    • You may use a Reliable article as a source (but remember that even if a Wikipedia article is reliable, it should never be your only source on a topic!)

    • You may use a Partially Reliable article as a starting point for your research, and may use some
of its references as sources, but do not us it as a source.

    • You should not use an Unreliable article as a source or a starting point. Research the same topic in a different encyclopedia.
How did you rank this article (Reliable, Partially Reliable or Unreliable)? Give at least three reasons to support
your answer.

I ranked trusworthy because it  has been  messed with in a few years. None of the editors said that information was worng.Thw sources seemed pretty good to.

Double Entry #4

Quote: “Some students, when asked to ask questions about the believability of media texts, may respond from deep within the familiar adolescent state of alienation and mistrust."

Response: This quote same that teens no not to believe everyhting that may read in media. Us young adult being digtil native know better then to believe everything we seen online or in a social media site. The state above says that when questioned about it that we answered it with mistrust. There is aften a great lack of support many things you may come across on the internet.

Activity #2

Response:     I have never used much of wikipedia due to fact most of my teachers in high school said teh inforamtion was fasle and no good. However I have used it to lead to many site that i could use and cite in a paper. I feel that wikipedia is a trust worhtly site to use if you know how to look for false information and not use it. Teachers in general need to learn that wikipedia is not as false as it has been made out to be and that is actually a really good site to use.

Learning styles.

I believe that learning styles are very important in a classroom. There many differnent types of learners and ways learning. There are now tow kids that will learn the same way but there they might learn ing similiar ways. I do believe that learnign style are very important when trying to make a lesson plan or planning a class activity. In the vidoe at the end it say we chould use leanring style to make plan; I high disagree with that we need to find out how students. So that, we can instruct clear on subject or topics

Picasso Head/ My Learning style.

                                                            Kinesthetic learner.

In my quiz to see what type of learner I am i found out hat my learning style is Kinesthetic. A kinesthetic learner is a active learner by wanting to move around. I do know that I do like ot move around becasue I don't like to be sitting still for to long. I usaully find some way to appease my self and move around during intrstion so that i can focus better and not daise off.

Wordle lesson plan idea

1. Personal Narratives: Write, or copy and paste, a personal narrative into Wordle. Students will be able to see what is important to their peers from the words that are produced from the Wordle word clouds. Compare the words that are used most often by boys, or girls, by age group, or by class/grade level. These Wordle lessons make great displays outside a classroom

Double Entry Journial #2

Newer Lingo is change the American English Language.

Quote:   “Our present aim is to raise awareness of the problems caused by the irregularity of English spelling. We DO NOT support solutions.”

Response:   This say that people are aware of the problem with new texting language; that is working its way in the American language. Not only are the professional aware but they do not want to change any thing in the dictionary to help with today's new way of communicating with other around us. I can see the point of not wanting to change the dictionary  because our language is complex, and is very hard to learn even for people of the English language. However, I do think that some in ways texting has help out me to better explain what they are meaning, when texting. Yes, people do need to learn how to spell correctly but also there may need to be a change so that we can up with "Modern America" and the way of speech we us today. Today's world has changed along with the way of communicating with other by phone or many other devices; which don't allow us to use many world. Thus this is why I feel that a change is needed.

                                                         Why not a change?
